Danger from BTS antenna radiation down to zero: minister

“Mobile phone operators could minimize the danger from mobile phone BTS antenna radiation if they adhered to certain standards,” said the minister of Information & Communication Technology Mohammad Soleimani was quoted as saying.
“If the minimum standard requirement is observed in launching a BTS antenna there will be no concern over the danger of its radiation,” he added.
“All kinds of telecommunication antennas are launched world-wide in open spaces and none has caused hazard to humans,” Soleimani said.
He stressed that the proper usage of mobile telecommunication network should be publicized pointing out that in a recent study by International Telecommunication Union on the effects of mobile phone radiation, it was found that the danger from mobile phone radiation is about 1/100th of other telecommunication systems.
Soleimani said that calls by satellite phone are 1000 rials (10 cents) per minutes whereas with ordinary mobile phones it is 44 rials (less than a cent), which is more cost-effective.
He also said that satellite mobile sets are much bigger than ordinary mobile sets and difficult to carry around; adding that with such phones the voice is received with delay.
