Only way to fight mobile set smuggling is to reduce import tariff

“Current tariff on imported mobile set has to be cut to four percent or the market will continue witnessing smuggled mobile sets,” Gholam-Hussein Karimi told Mobna news agency.
“Before import tariff was raised from four to 60 percent there was no mobile set smuggling into the country because it was not feasible,” he added.
He added that the union is 100 percent against domestic mobile set production because it is not reasonable.
He said that failure by domestic companies to fulfill their obligations and the high import tariff has created a situation where over 80 percent of the market is now taken up by smuggled sets.
