Wrong policies won’t stop mobile smuggling –

“Mobile set smuggling has been on the increase since Mar 21, 2006, amounting to 80 per cent of the country’s existing sets,” Ebrahim Jalili told Irans mobile news agency (Mobna).
He said Iranian mobile market requires 8 million sets every year, which shows to what extent the smuggling is prevalent in the country, and that requires more attention by the authorities.
He said the current 25 percent import tariff is the main driving force behind the smuggling, since its risk is too low.
He said the agency responsible for tackling mobile set smuggling cannot stop the practice alone and is in need of help from other organizations such as ministries of commerce, economic affairs and industries and mines.
