3 million ports made for mobile phone network equipments
“The consortium has signed a contract in 2007 with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to made equipments for 6 million mobile phone lines. At present time over 50% of the contract has been implemented and the consortium will fulfill its commitment by the end of this year,” Moahmmad-Ebrahim Motale said.
“The contract ended in 2008 but the consortium extended it to the end of this Iranian year (March 2010) since mobile phone line equipments are produced for the first time in the country and is a complex technology,” he added.
“By implementing the contract and launching mobile phone network equipment production line, the country is now among 6 countries in the world which manufacture mobile phone network equipments,” Motale said.
“Tose’eh Ertebat Sayyar Consortium consists of 6 top domestic companies in telecommunication industry but since ICT technology is complex and is limited to some countries, the consortium started its activity in cooperation with some foreign companies,” he added.
“With the help of Iranian experts we could produce 70-80% of equipments domestically,” he said.
“ITMC is the country’s first and biggest telecommunication equipment company and at present time is supplying more than 60% of landline and over 30% of mobile phone network equipments,” he added.
“ITMC currently supplies some of Mobile Company of Iran network equipments but Second Operator (IranCell) obtains all of its equipments from foreign sources,” Motale said.
“The main rival to Iranian telecommunication industries are Chinese companies which make cheap but poor quality products,” he said.
“So far more than 30% of ITMC has been assigned to the public as Justice Share, 20% to German Nokia-Siemens Company, 30% jointly to the Industry and Mine Bank and Atiyeh Damavand Investment Company and 10 % is owned by small shareholders,” he said.
