Mobile Company of Iran GPRS service contractor to be fined for delay: official
According to the agreement inked SAIran was due to offer GPRS services for MCI by end of 2007 –early 2008 but it failed to do so.
“GPRS service contractor of Mobile Company of Iran are installing equipment now and current systems of network are being updated,” Vafa Ghafarian communication minister deputy told Mobna news agency.
“According to talks held, GPRS service will be ready for the customers by end of summer (21 September), and delay fine had been mentioned in the agreement,” he added.
“GPRS service fee has been approved during a Telecommunication Company of Iran board meeting and the fees have been offered to Radio Communication and Regulation Organization,” he added.
Radio Communication and Regulation Organization is regulatory body of the Irans telecommunication ministry which set standard of operation of telecommunication companies in Islamic republic.
“Mobile Company of Iran will implement GPRS service fee after they get approved by the regulatory body,” Ghafarian added.
SAIran Company using Huaweis equipment won the Mobile Company of Irans GPRS tender around September 2007.
SAIran committed to launch the service three months after it gets the order.
GPRS technology enables mobile phone subscribers to use internet and multi media features such as short message service (sms), multimedia messaging service (mms) and internet communication services such as email and www access.
A year has passed since Mobile Company of Iran announced that it will use GPRS technology in its network and will allow its subscribers to take advantages of access to services of mobile internet.
