Telecommunication Company of Iran’s privatization and ensuing difficulties

TCI, identified by its trade symbol “Akhaber” on TSE’s main board, accounts for 11.6 per cent of TSE’s 74-billion-dollar assets while some other major companies are facing recession.
This has made privatization even harder since the government’s plan, as leaked to the press, is to sell the stocks in block form to a couple of foreign companies who have set up, or are setting up, few offices in the country with the officials’ blessings.
If the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is as public-oriented as it claims to be, it should avoid any behind-the-scene dealings with foreign companies and instead concentrate on restructuring TCI to public’s interest.
