Provincial telecom companies’ 33.41 per cent rise in IT index

“Provinces of Mazandaran (north) and Sistan-Balouchestan (southeast) came top in IT index ranking among provincial telecom companies in August 2008 compared to previous months,” Ministry of Information and Telecommunication Technology public relations reported.
“Mazandaran Province with 14 and Sistan-Baluchestan province with 11 steps rise came top in provinces with rural communities linked to information network for communities with populations of over 100; this was mainly due to such communities being in close proximity to each other,” the report says.
According to International Telecommunication Unions (ITU) latest report the internet users penetration rate, which was 10 percent by Mar 21, 2004 currently stands at 27.5 per cent and is expected to rise to 30 per cent by the end of the country’s Fourth Development Plan.
