MPs initial vote for computer offences bill
The bill, in five sections, including definitions, offences and punishments, jurisdiction, international co-operations and other regulations consists of 42 items.
First section includes definition of terms such as computer data, user id, computer system, telecommunication system, system provider and security system.
Second section, comprising 8 chapters, deals with offenses such as breach of computer and telecommunication privacy, felony, data sabotage etc.
Third section deals with jurisdiction regarding competency, electronic evidence gathering and so on.
According to the Iranian law making procedures, each article of the bill will be voted on and once the procedure is finished it will go to vetting body the Guardian Council, which has to approve it. Upon its approval it will become a law.
The bill will be submitted for further scrutiny to parliament’s judicial committee followed by discussion in the open session.
