Telecommunication rates to be watched by Competition Council
“The Competition Council does not approve or disapprove of the TCI block share sale,” Jamshid Pajouyan said at a session with the press on Mar 13.
“The sale had taken place before the Council had even been formed,” he added.
“The Competition Councils has been established to maintain fairplay and to combat monopoly in the telecommunication sector,” he added.
He said there had been only two contenders in the tender and none was from the private sector.
“In future, millions of citizens will be affected by a privatized telecommunication which could threaten to monopolize the market and this is where the role of the Competition Council becomes so prominent,” Pajouyan said.
The Council has urged all devolution panels to consult the Council before embarking on a privatization process.
