Tamin Telecom declared as mobile phone Third Operator: ICT Minister

“As we promised before the contract will be implemented soon,” Reza Taghipour told Mobna news agency.
“The project has been assigned to Tamin Telecom, an affiliate of the Social Security Organization. Since the issue has caused controversy and political debate, a more review of the operator was needed,” ICT minister said.
Tamin Etisalat Consortium was selected as Third Operator on Jan 11 but was dismissed from the project because of its foreign partner.
Tamin Telecom has submitted the required bank guarantee to start the project in time and some agreements have been reached with the authorities to select another foreign partner in place of Erimates’ Etisalat in the project, Mobna learnt.
Regarding Taliya project, the Minister said it was in progress and not shelved and according to its contract was currently in collaboration with the Telecommunication Company of Iran and was offering its service,” the Minister said.
Asked why Taliya’s nominated foreign partners were not accepted he said the negotiation for an investor in the Taliya project was in progress and added: “Those who wish to collaborate with TCI have to be approved first. Attracting Taliya investor has been written in the TCI license and it is the contractor’s right and they could continue negotiation to reach agreement,” he said.
“Agreement between TCI and Rafsanjan Industrial Complex for attracting a foreign investor in Taliya project in recent years was among most important reasons in Taliya’s delay in implementing its contract obligations,” he added.
57% of Taliya’s gross revenue goes to TCI. It has issued around one million sim cards so far and offers its services in all provincial capitals and some large cities.
