Minister accountable to Parliament over Latin Payamac tariff rise

over its illegal raising of Latin SMS tariff.
Ahmad Bozorgian, in conversation with MOBNA, said the increase is in violation of Fourth Development Plan’s item 3.
He indicated that to raise or lower tariffs, the government has to seek Parliament’s consent through a bill by the October of each year, and may change the tariff only when the bill has been passed.
He praised the Information & Communication Technology ministry for lowering the Persian SMS tariff nonetheless.
Asked if parliament would take action on the issue of Latin SMS tariff increase, he said the minister himself will be questioned by the Industries & Mines Committee in due course.
Last year ICT ministry announced that on the basis of a Cabinet ruling, Persian SMS tariff has been lowered to 89 Rial while the Latin SMS tariff would be 146 Rial until next June and 222 Rial after that.
