Value added tax law increases mobile sets import tariff: an expert

“In fact by implementing value added tax and receiving three percent custom tax from authorized importers, mobile sets import tariff will reach 28 percent,” Pars Comtel managing director Hosein Payandeh told Mobna news agency.
Pars Comtel is an authorized distributor of Motorola and Sony Ericsson mobile sets.
Value added tax law is implemented as of 22 September in Iran and has been declared to all vendors for implementation.
“The ultimate loser will be authorized mobile phone importer companies, since they have to pay this extra three percent and not the consumer,” he added.
“By implementing this law mobile sets price will not raise, since smugglers took control of Tehran mobile phone market. If legal sets price increases then consumers will be inclined towards the smuggled ones,” he said.
Many vendors, guilds and unions will make complaints of this law.
